Leadership Coaching at the Intersection of US and Taiwanese Professional Culture
For executives and professionals navigating both worlds —
wherever you are
Some professional challenges don't fit neatly into a coaching framework - they sit at the intersection of cultures, expectations, and histories that most coaches haven't lived inside.
I'm an American executive coach who has worked across Silicon Valley, the U.S. Department of State, Taiwan, and global organizations. I understand both sides of the Pacific — not from research, but from experience.
If your leadership challenges live at the intersection of US and Taiwanese professional culture, this work is built for you.
Who This Work Is For
Taiwanese tech leaders who returned from the Bay Area
You built your career in Silicon Valley. You understand American professional culture from the inside. Then you came back to Taiwan — and found yourself navigating a different set of expectations, hierarchies, and communication norms.
You want a coach who doesn't need the context explained. Someone who understands both worlds and can help you lead effectively across them.
Taiwan-based leaders expanding into the US market
Entering the US market means more than having the right product or strategy. It means understanding how American teams operate, how US investors think, and how to communicate your vision in ways that land across cultural lines.
I work with Taiwanese executives and founders preparing to hire American teams, pitch US investors, and build organizations that work effectively across both cultures.
Organizations with US-Taiwan teams
Cultural friction between US and Taiwan offices is one of the most common and least-discussed challenges in global organizations. Different expectations around hierarchy, initiative, feedback, and decision-making create real performance problems that don't show up in org charts.
I work with leadership teams to surface those dynamics, build mutual understanding, and create the conditions for high performance across cultures. This work is delivered remotely and is available globally.
Family business and generational transition
Some of my most meaningful work has been with family-owned businesses navigating generational transition — where the founder's legacy, the next generation's vision, and the company's future all need to move forward together.
I'm not a business consultant. I'm a coach who has built and sold companies, and who understands the psychology of letting go as well as the ambition of building what comes next.
AI Adoption Across Cultures
Artificial intelligence is reshaping how organizations operate on both sides of the Pacific — but the leadership challenges it creates are different in each context.
Taiwanese leaders returning from the Bay Area often find themselves ahead of their local peers on AI fluency but struggling to bring their organizations with them. Leaders expanding into the US market need to understand how American organizations are adopting AI and what that means for their own teams and strategy.
I bring both AI executive coaching expertise and cross-cultural fluency to this challenge — helping leaders navigate AI adoption in ways that work across cultural contexts, not just within one.
What Makes This Coaching Different
Most coaches who work across cultures learned about cultural difference in a classroom or through client engagements. My experience is different.
Over the past two decades I have:
Worked with international teams as a Community Liaison Officer with the U.S. Department of State — inside the machinery of US-international professional relations
Founded and led technology companies in Silicon Valley
Lived and worked in Taiwan, coaching executives and advising organizations navigating cross-cultural leadership challenges
Coached leaders across technology, nonprofit, government, and social impact sectors globally
I also bring specialized expertise in AI executive coaching — helping leaders develop the clarity, fluency, and strategic confidence to navigate AI adoption without losing culture, trust, or integrity in the process. This work is increasingly relevant for leaders operating across US and Taiwanese professional environments simultaneously.
I understand how Americans operate in international environments — and how international professionals experience American institutional and corporate culture. That's not a framework. It's fluency earned over decades.
I'm currently based internationally and work with all clients remotely via video.
How We Work Together
Coaching engagements are one-on-one, conducted in English, and tailored to your specific situation and goals.
Most clients come for one of three reasons:
They are navigating a leadership transition that involves moving between US and Taiwanese professional environments
They are building or leading organizations that span both cultures
They want a coach who understands the full context of their leadership without having to explain it
I work with a small number of clients at a time. Every engagement gets my full attention.
About Michael
I've spent my career at the intersection of leadership, culture, and change.
My work with the U.S. Department of State gave me a front-row view of what happens when American and international professional cultures meet — the assumptions, the friction, and the moments when understanding the other side makes all the difference.
That experience, combined with two decades of founding companies, leading teams, and coaching executives across sectors and continents, shapes every engagement I bring to this work.
